When Figma released the article, "The outsized role culture plays in attracting design talent", I was somewhat surprised to read the main takeaway that personal growth drives designers. I thought it was an apt topic for a workshop for the graduating class of California College of the Arts to reflect on.
One of the most meaningful responses during the Q&A was when a participants realized some of the non-negotiables throughout their careers, things which are necessary for them to stay energized. Some of them eschewed working for bosses who micromanaged; others realized that they'd wanted to pursue industrial design.
It was meaningful for me to help upcoming designers figure out aspects of their careers which would keep them fulfilled.
